Basug, one of the oldest villages of Santa, is at the foothills of the mountain in the east, north of Cabangaran. According to legend, there once lived in the purok a couple with only a son, who was quite pampered. Whenever his parents requested him to help in the farm, he murmured and uttered unsavory words and stamped his feet. This action of stamping the feet is “agbasugbasug” in the dialect. The people of the purok knew the boy for his negative characteristics. The people of the neighboring puroks referred to the boy’s village as “Purok ni Basug.”
