North of the original purok of Labut was purok of Mabilbila which was later
divided into Barangays Mabilbila Norte and Mabilbila Sur, under Presidential
Decree No. 86 of 1973. The name “Mabilbila” was derived from the name of a plant
called “Bila,” a monocot water plant growing abundantly in the marshy area of
the purok. Mabilbila is a combination of the Iloko prefix Ma and Bila.
