Barangay Manueva is found north of Barangay Mabilbila Norte, south of Barangay
Cabangaran, the Ilocos Range on the east and the rice fields on the west.
The old folks said that in the early days, there lived in the purok a couple
named Nicolas and Trinidad, who were engaged as housekeepers of the manager of
the Encomienda de Narandan (now Santa). When Trinidad died, leaving three
children, Nicolas had to attend to the needs of his small children at the same
time, to his duties in the encomienda. His tight situation caused him to marry
in no time. When the eldest child cried, she called for her stepmother, “Mama
Nueva,” which means “new mother”. The younger children cried to imitate what the
eldest child said and called their stepmother “Ma Nueva.” The neighbors and the
other people jokingly called the purok of Nicolas, “Manueva”.
