The barrio bordering the bay on the west is Pasungol, southwest of the
Poblacion. The name of the barangay was derived from the Iloko word “Sangol,”
meaning “yoke,” which was combined with the Iloko prefix “pa”. Hence, the name
PA-sangol (curved like a sangol or yoke) and ease or sapped of and economy of
effort in utterance, Pasangol had been changed to Pasungol. Another version
about the derivation of name of the barrio was that the land of the purok
bordering the seas was similar to the snout of an animal projecting to the sea.
The people called it “Pasungo.” For euphemism, “Pasungo” was changed to
“Pasungol.”
