Barangay Rancho is northwest of Caisber and adjoining it. Rancho got its name
from the Spanish word “Rancho,” which means “ranch.” In the early days, the rich
people of the pueblo had a ranch in the village, the place, together with
Caisber and Calungboyan, was surrounded by water – a branch of the Abra River on
the north, another branch on the east and south, and the South China Sea on the
west. As such, animals in the ranch were prevented from straying away. Because
of the presence of the ranch, the Gobernadorcillo called the place “Rancho.
Another version about the naming of the purok was due to the availability of
food in the place such as fish from the sea and the river, and meat from the
ranch. The village was considered as a vacation place for the Spaniards, who
called it “El Rancho.”
