Sacuyya is located between Ampandula on the south and Rizal on the north. Old Sacuyya was west of the present one. Because of erosion by the Abra River, the people migrated to an elevated site of the highway then under construction.

In the old Purok, there once lived an elderly, good and popular woman named Apo Sacuy, meaning “bow-legged.” People of the neighboring settlements called the place of the popular woman, “Purok ni Apo Sacuy.” Some asked, “Ni Apo Sacuy a?” Hence, the name Sacuyya was derived.

With the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 66 of 1973, Sacuyya was divided into two barangays: Sacuyya Norte and Sacuyya Sur.
