Municipality of Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur is the second
town from the boundary of Province of La Union and
Ilocos Sur, going north. It lies within 120 degrees 34
minutes longtitude and 17 degrees 07 latitude. It has
a total area of 144 sq. kilometers bounded on the
south by the Municipality of Tagudin and Suyo on the
west by the South China Sea and on the north by the
Municipality of Sta. Lucia and Salcedo. It is 74
kilometers from Vigan, Ilocos Sur, the capital of
Ilocos Sur, 62 kilometers from City of San Fernando,
Regional Center of Region One and 334 kilometers north
of Manila. It has a population of 36,657, 3,266 in the
urban and 34,592 in the rural. It is composed of forty
nine (49) barangays and ten (10) sitios. Four (4) of
its barnagays are located in the Poblacion with a
total land area of 30 hectares, which is 0.21% of the
total land area. The rural barangays have a total land
area of 14,369.7 hectares representing 99.79% of the
municipality’s total land area.
The
municipality is now second class in income
classification with a total annual income of
P34,690,683.14 with one thousand one hundred twenty
five (1,125) establishments to support the commerce
and trade in the municipality. The public market is
the No. 1 generating project of the municipality.
Taxation program coupled with the diligence and
honesty of the employees were the factors of putting
Sta. Cruz a second class (2nd class) in
income classification.
