he
municipality of Santa Lucia is located along the
western coast of Northern Luzon and lies on the
Southern part of the province of Ilocos Sur. It is
bounded on the North by the City of Candon, on the
East by the Municipality of Salcedo, on the South by
the Municipality of Santa Cruz and on the West by the
China Sea. It is 69.3 kilometers South of the City of
Vigan, the provincial capital, 70 kilometers from San
Fernando City, the regional capital and 338
kilometers north of Manila.
The municipality is
classified as a fourth income class municipality, it
consists of thirty –six (36) barangays with total land
area of 46.92 square kilometers and a population of
22,363. Out of the 46.92 square kilometers, 4,297.55
hectares are agricultural lands, 122.60 hectares are
residential lands, 2.58 hectares are
commercial/industrial lands, 73.68 hectares are public
utility lands and 3.37 hectares belong to the
religious sector.
Predominantly, Santa
Lucia is an agricultural municipality, its major crop
is rice followed by tobacco, corn, vegetables,
peanuts, watermelon and mangoes.
Santa Lucia is fast
becoming a center of trade and commerce, it has now a
number of commercial establishments operating, which
provides additional revenue to the municipality. These
establishments are as follows: sari-sari stores,
tailoring/dress shops, drug stores, bakeries, rice
mills, gasoline station, eateries, computer shop,
cable services and funeral parlors.
The municipality also
enjoys a number of infrastructure and public
facilities like 14 schools, district hospital, 1
rural health unit and 4 health centers, 1 covered
auditorium.
It
is also a potential tourist destination. Its church
is a historical landmark usually visited by foreign
and local tourists. Its beaches are among potential
tourist destinations especially during summer time.
