Police Services
For public safety and
assurance, the Ilocos Sur Provincial Police Office is
tasked to protect and inform the people, residents and
visitors alike about the province’s present peace and
order status.
From all indications,
Ilocos Sur is peaceful and orderly despite the
incidence of some separate crimes against persons
committed in the province. Although it has its share
in the criminality picture, the situation is still
manageable and under control by all the officers and
men of the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office.
The Ilocos Sur Police
Provincial Office is headed by a provincial director.
It has a complement of two (2) Police Provincial
Mobile Groups (PPMG) and 34 Municipal Police
Stations. The first PPMG based at the Ilocos Sur
Police Provincial Office covers the whole of the first
district of the province with 11 municipalities. The
second PPMG is based in Narvacan and involves the
second district of the province with 23 municipalities
under its turf. The command has an actual strength of
47 PCOs, 774 PNCOs and 7 NUPs.
For the year 2001, the
crime situation in the province remains stable. Crime
volume for the period was registered at 628 incidents.
Of this number, 270 were Index Crimes, 243 were crimes
against person and 27 were crimes against property.
Out of the 628 incidents, 579 cases were solved giving
a Crime Solution Efficiency of 92.9%. Crime rate was
9.6 per 100,000 population.
Fire Protection
In the province, there
are 12 municipalities with five (5) fire stations and
(six) municipalities with fire pump. These five
stations/fire pumps are manned by 101 fire protection
personnel. At present, there are 17 fire stations, 10
fire pumps and one ambulance. The ratio of fire
personnel to population is 1:5876.
