Gov. Savellano links with SMC to stabilize
yellow corn price in Ilocos Sur
Governor Deogracias Victor Savellano announced
recently that the Provincial Government has made a
tie-up with San Miguel Corporation (SMC) for the
purchase of the locally produced yellow corn in the
province with a reasonable price.
Dubbed as GMAIS (Grain Marketing Assistance of Ilocos
Sur0, the tie-up is envisioned to solve and stabilize
the fluctuating prices of yellow corn as well as it
serves as the Governor’s response to the farmers’
demand for increase in the price of locally produced

P326 million provincial
budget approved
The Provincial Board of Ilocos Sur
approved the proposed P326 million budget of the
Provincial Government for 2003 during their first
regular session for the year on January 07,2003.
Governor Deogracias
Victor B. Savellano disclosed that the proposed
general fund for 2003 aims to meet all the needs of
the departments to continue their efficient
operations.
The said budget was
purely based on the annual Internal Revenue Allotment

Importance
of World Heritage Sites conservation taken in forum
The 3-day Symposium on Humane and
Sustainable Ilocos Sur Heritage Sites and 1st Vigan
Building Material Expo was held at Vigan City Cultural
and Trade Center last January 17-19, 2003 to inculcate
the significance on the conservation of the World
Heritage sites in the province.

Bamboo Museum soon to
rise in Cabugao
To complete the bamboo production program of Cabugao
town under Mayor Diocaesar Suero, a bamboo museum will
soon rise next to the new towm market.
According to Mayor Suero, his administration is bent
on making Cabugao the bamboo center of the north
although the town is not one of the bamboo producers
of the province.
He said that soon after the first Tobacco Museum is
completed, the Bamboo Museum will be constructed.
The project, he said, is a joint effort of the town’s
non-government organizations led by Mr. Eddie
Cobangbang, the provincial government under Governor
Deogracias Victor "DV" B. Savellano, the national
government and primarily, the owner of NEPA Q-Mart in
Quezon City, Ilocano lawyer, Atty. Nerio Faculdo.
