There is an abundance of
souvenir shops and other businesses in Ilocos Sur which may be
found in every town or city center of business activities.
These normally open at around 8am to 5pm on Monday to
Saturdays. However, most opens on Sundays and holidays as
well. In other places, stores are still open in the evenings.
During weekends, banks are closed but most offer 24/7
automated teller machines (ATMs). Some stores also accept
major credit cards.
What to buy:
Pasalubongs (souvenirs) are
a must for every visitor since Ilocos Sur offers a wide range
of bits and pieces from antique shops, souvenir stores, and
public markets. In most places, antique items are available
from furnitures, miniatures, and other crafts. Clay pots and
jars are recognized as one of Ilocos Sur’s oldest industry
whose factory is lured by tourists. Don’t forget to avail the
most wanted delicacies which include the royal bibingka (rice
cake), chunky tinubong (rice cake in bolo/bamboo tubes),
longaniza (native sausage), bagnet/chicharon (crispy pata),
chichacorn (corn bits) among others.
