SANTA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: A PRIMER
The Municipal Government of Santa through the leadership of Mayor Jesus B. Bueno
Jr. has adopted a Scholarship Program under the Ordinance passed by the
Sangggunian Bayan (Legislative Body) through the authorship of Councilor Lorenzo
Q. Formoso. It aims to help students of the town who are interested in pursuing
higher education. Under this landmark legislation, the Municipal Government
shall provide for free tuition fees and allowances to college and high school
students. Those recipients are selected based on their status in life, grades
and personal drive to continue and finish their studies. The funding source is
the 20% Annual Development Fund. For the past six years, hundreds of students
have availed of said fund. Most of these beneficiaries have already graduated in
college and are now professionals. Some even graduated Cum Laude and with
honors. Others have successfully passed their Board and are now employed in
various fields of endeavor.
This year, the number of students who want to avail said project has
considerably increased. As of now, more than a hundred are listed and have
received their stipend and allowances aside from the tuition fees reimbursed.
The available fund has already been exhausted. It is regrettable that this noble
intention to help the marginalized people by providing free education is
encountering financial difficulties.
Under this light, the Municipal Government of Santa enjoins fellow Santanians
here and abroad to extend financial assistance to sustain the Scholarship
Program. Any donations shall be put in the Trust Fund for said project and shall
be properly accounted.
Your help will go a long way… |

Santa launches official website
The Municipality of Santa is now accessible on the Internet. Anyone
may already log on to www.santa.gov.ph, the official website of Santa, Ilocos
Sur.
The fifth of May is not only a celebration for Mayor Jesus Bueno, Jr., who
happens to turn 49 on this date. But more than just a festivity, it is also the
momentous launching of its very first official website, which is a significant
tool to serve its people here and its foreign counterparts in a high-tech
manner.
Coinciding this special day is the unveiling of the promotional billboard at the
National Highway, southwest of the public market. A boxing competition at the
gym and the medical mission at the Rural Health Unit were also conducted.
The website is considered to be a major breakthrough in the promotion of trade
and tourism as it showcases its potentials in terms of attractions, industries and the Santanians, who are very much acclaimed for their
legacy and industry. It is a
project that is least expected to be felt and touched but is clear enough to
inform other people on what this distinct town is all about.
The Santa Website Development Team is so overwhelmed because this is a
one-of-a-kind project that not all of Santa's municipal counterparts have
successfully constructed. What makes this Information Technology infrastructure
so unique is that it provides the necessary information about Santa, its tourism
and investment potentials as enhanced with brilliant and high-definition digital
images
captured by Vic Sison, one of the Philippines' highly respected photographers.
It thus brings every web visitor to that particular feel of browsing a brochure,
and positioning Santa into a closer and more personal approach.
This project has been another enormous achievement indeed for the Bueno Administration.
Behind the Web
Team are Mr. Constante Sabalburo, Mrs. Adelina Cardenas, Ms. Judelyn Burgos, SBM
Lorenzo
Formoso and Mr. Laren Belardo. www.santa.gov.ph is another web development engagement by
Martin Lasquite. |

Sports development is one of the Mayor's
highly-acclaimed programs. He believes that through sports, his constituents
will not only indulge themselves into entertainment and health consciousness. It
could also pave way into the discovery of a Santanian Manny Pacquiao
in-the-making. |
